Jazzy Jazz Tunes

What is it?

This series is all about Jazz. If you like the Great American Songbook, you will love this!

  • How to create effective and melodic walking bass lines
  • How to listen to Jazz effectively
  • Reading chord changes and Jazz charts without getting confused
  • How to make it swing!
  • How to keep the form!
  • Repertoire!
  • Soloing and improv
  • Cool rhythmic variations when walking (skips, burps, drops, triplets)
  • Bossa, Ballads, 3/4…
  • and much much more

How to make it Swing?

Yupp, that’s the most important thing!
Good swing feel is created from understanding the subdivision, phrasing and articulation, feeling the drummer’s swing feel.
It takes a bit of technique and a dash of patience, but this is where it must start!

Learn the ding-a-la and the Katching and people will love t play with you!

How will this help me?

This class will get you ready for Jazz jams, will improve your skills so you get the call back from your bands and give you confidence and rhythmic stability.

You will also get a great set list under your belt!

Is this for me?

Easy Going Jazz is right for you if you love the Great American Songbook and want to foray into walking bass lines. We start out with a simple blues, then graduate to a Jazz Blues and work our way up to Fly Me to the Moon and Autumn Leaves. A bit in 3/4, and some Bossa for good measure!

This course will go over the Diatonic Cycle, a landmark theory detail. Knowing simple intervals and triads helps, and there will be lots of review of the theory shapes, and of course, lots of practice.

Which Level is right for me?

Level 1 starts out nice and easy.
Feel free to join Level 2 if you already have experience walking changes.

How Live Classes Work

    • Welcome to Ten Week Live Classes with a small group of peers LIVE on zoom or doozzoo with Ari or a handpicked teacher!

        • Meetings every week for 10 weeks!
        • Specific practice assignments clearly described.
        • Each Live Class gets recorded and stays available to the attendees for the duration of the class plus an additional ten weeks afterwards.
        • These classes are highly interactive – practice together with me and hear yourself only as everyone is on mute!
        • We offer many opportunities to play in front of the group to those who would like to do so. While it is always your choice, we always encourage you to volunteer to present your assignment.
        • You can post written homework to our discussion boards.
        • Our success rate for these groups has been exceptionally high. This is because the group format takes the pressure off and you learn while seeing others work toward the same goal. You are among friends and your teacher is personally coaching you using a streamlined program.
        • Some of our groups have been together for 40 weeks or longer. The sense of community, encouragement and support is amazing.
        • All you need is an internet connection, a microphone, and a webcam (many computers have these built in already).
