1. You will learn how to practice effectively
It’s not the quantity of practice that matters most, but the quality.
Practicing does not just mean repetition and rote learning for hours on end hoping for the best. Rather, Ari leads you through an effective and focused session on the bass in each session and teaches you the art of effective practicing in a distraction-free and structured zone.
2. Learn your favorite bass lines and go beyond the bass line
It is very easy these days to grab TAB off youtube and simply follow along. With Ari, however, learning the (parts of the) song is more like a means to a bigger end, namely to use these bass lines as vehicles for musical growth, as springboards for learning about theory, rhythm, technique. This way of learning brings all these foundational skills to life as they start to make sense in their actual musical context.
3. Theory and Improv, Groove and Technique
Ari will analyze the theory and rhythms behind the song with you and examine various technical challenges. She makes specific drills out of all these elements that have you learning the song in a while new depth.
Why and how exactly is this bass line working? How can you reliably give it that same feel? What happens if we change details of phrasing or the perception of the subdivision? Or what about reharmonizing sections?
4. New skills on your creative shelf
Ari has developed signature drills that enable you to slowly develop and nurture your personal creativity. Exercises like her Reduction, Overlays or drills using rhythmic templates open enough guardrails to assure it “sounds like you know what you are doing” while opening up creative space for you to explore at the same time.
5. Whether you practice along live or in the archives, you will always spend a productive, well-rounded session on the bass you can feel great about!
No more poking about various courses that are not clear on what to work on and how to work on it. Contrary to what many believe, music learning is not linear. It requires a lot of smart repetition, skillful variation and paying attention to various details. The drills Ari does with you are the drills that help you dig deep to find your musical voice. This is high level rapid results practice and it works for players of all levels.
After a quick warmup of fingers, body, ears and mind, Ari leads you through a few Finger Kung Fu drills (those are her technique exercises). They are typically related to a song of the week, addressing challenges particular to the song as well as common technical hurdles.
In Starter Sessions, Ari typically introduces a bass groove in its wider context. As she breaks it down, she examines its impact and structure (rhythm, theory, technique) She tackles key parts of the song by creating various fun drills that work the song, your chops and your creativity.
You learn how to make it groove rather than just pluck the notes and you understand the song rather than just regurgitate it!
In Deep Dive Sessions, Ari will also apply special song learning techniques such as her “Reductions” (what makes this groove special?), “Overlays” (how to apply this groove to related situations), “What Ifs” (real-life scenarios from jams and gigs) and other drills that are designed to sharpen your musical instincts and give you confidence.
In Ari’s Ear Confidence Course (recommended but not mandatory) Ari demonstrates her six favorite paths to train your ear. In live ear training sessions in the membership (DeepDive/Mentorship levels) you will practice along those paths; what’s exciting is that this is eartraining with bass in hand!
Rather than doing ear training via isolated identification of intervals and chords such as apps have you do, Ari puts it into musical and bass specific contexts.
She shows you what to listen for, how to listen for detail and how to listen for “the gist of it”. Many drills involve improvisation and backing tracks.
She offers variations for different levels and incorporates rhythms, pitches, chords, scales, melodies. Most interesting is: what is the effect of certain musical sounds and how can you use them creatively in a bass situation?
If you participate live you will answer Ari’s ear quizzes straight into the chat or via signals into the camera.
Got the wrong answer? No problem! Unlike an app that will give you an error buzz and move on, Ari will examine what was “misheard” and go back and forth between what you thought it was and what it really was.
This way “errors” turn into great learning opportunities.
You will do various drills where you put the ear training details to work and play or improvise to a track. Ari will give you feedback just like in the other live classes.
Volunteer, ask questions and finally learn for real (and fast!)

Simply practice along (you can hear yourself, but nobody else can unless you choose to unmute yourself). It’s very interactive, you can ask questions and play if you like, or just watch and learn.
With Ari’s multi-cam setup, you will see closeups of her fingerings and fretboard from every critical angle.
You receive study materials, jam tracks, PDFs, plus access to a recording of the session for you to review afterward. Participants are welcome and encouraged to unmute themselves to ask any questions or share their artistic interpretation of a given drill.

Yes! All of our PDFs have sheet music as well as TAB and chords. Reading is a great skill to have for a musician, but if you don’t know it yet, you can follow along using the TAB. And eventually you can opt to take our reading courses!
This is a tier reserved for dedicated and long term students. Slots are very limited and a six month commitment is required.
In order to be considered, become a member of the DeepDive Membership for three months and let Ari know that you are interested in a slot when it becomes available.
In these live sessions you spend a highly productive session each time. This is quality practice over quantity practice.
The best way to support yourself is to make the regular live sessions a staple or watch and re-watch the recordings.
You are welcome and encouraged to practice in addition, but even if you don’t do that and just show up and practice along or simply press play, your learning curve is reliably headed in the right direction!
The kind of practice you do here is so engaging, motivating and fun that you are effortlessly forming a solid habit!
The EarConfidence Course is excellent for self-study, while the live events provide hands-on training.
I do not like (most) app-based, interval-identifying ear training. What you need in jam sessions and on stage you learn much better bass in hand! Our eartraining will get you ready! We also aim to teach you to ditch the TAB.
Our EarTraining live classes provide light bulb moments, and creative breakthroughs and give you confidence as a player. EarTraining is vital training for any musician. And it’s fun, too, as we have our favorite tool – the bass – in hand!
All of our programs come with course portals that offer practice materials, PDFs with TAB, jamtracks plus the recordings. It’s all well organized and at your finger tips.
A computer with an internet connection, your bass and an amp in the room; that’s it! Even tablets or smartphones work, but computers offer better audio quality. If you have an audio interface and want to go fancy, go for it, but simple works well, too.
